I was in a conversation with a fellow solo/entre-preneur the other day.

He asked me how I defined high-achievers.

They are not only corporate managers and leaders and entrepreneurs but there are something about them running beyond the titles that fascinates me.

Beyond being ambitious in their professional achievement, their ambition has no bounds.

They boldly reclaim the dreams to desire the best of everything in life and energetically, tirelessly, constantly take actions to realize those dreams.

They love setting goals and love achieving them.

What’s more, they continuously identify themselves to further reinvent themselves in the process of define and conquer.

They are at the same time beaming this undeniable and at times, irritating identity of high-achiever and yet, they are never the same every time we look back in time and trace their steps.

They are resilient and personally, I don’t believe this description do them justice because they will go to the length for something they are passionate about yet people not necessary understand, falling down and over but never move their gaze away from the prize.

They don’t talk about courage because that’s who they are.

In the presence of setbacks, challenges and failures, they only ask, “So what do I need to do now?”

People consider them ruthless, emotionless and distance at times when their heart is burning with fire and care.

They look to people who succeed beyond them; instead telling themselves that “I am not him/her”, they hold a steel will forged in the fire of “S/he is human and I am human. S/he can do it; then I can do it.”

They have wild imagination and incredibly creative. They eat “impossible” for breakfast.

When we see them always doing, they walk through their own inner walk of fire more times than their doing.

They know their boundaries and are not afraid to stand up for themselves and the truths they believe in.

Yes, they can calculate too much; even yoga and meditation can be calculated plays.

They cherish time and energy like no others. (Hence, boundaries.) In this aspect, they are the wisest investor I’ve ever met.

He mentioned that he thought he was a high-achiever but it wasn’t a “self-identify” thing.

I am going to go as far as that there is a high-achieving self in all of us, the essence to experience human life fully, to create a better life, to desire validation and praises, to want to be seen and respected, to build something that we are proud of, to claim a foothold in this world, to attempt our own limitation and to feel limitless.

Remember that little boy or girl who wanted to get on the bicycle of neighbor big brother when his/her legs couldn’t even reach the paddles?

Remember that little boy or girl who always wanted to tag alone when the big kids were playing their big kids game?

Remember that little boy or girl who constantly say no and ask why and questioned all the teachings from adults?

Remember that “I want to be…” which your parents dismissed as a silly notion?

Remember that some of the reasons you spent so much time at work were for the promotions (validation), raises (resource to have better things) and more opportunities?

We don’t “self-identity” as a high-achiever simply because it’s so innately us, like a great guru who was given the identity instead of self-claiming.

Yet, in the course of adulting,

“High” adopted a narrow definition.

“Achieving” was confined in certain activities.

and “high-achiever” fell into the vicious cycle of comparing.

(Well, there is always at least one personal better than me in any of the things.)

Hence,

We stopped vibrating at “high”.

We stopped dreaming since so many are out of the boxes we were asked to stay in.

We stumbled and tumbled in the race of comparing with others.

➡️ Maybe, you identify yourself as a high-achiever but you feel stuck in a race you can’t win.

➡️ Maybe, you’ve told yourself not to dream and to follow your heart because you adopted the belief, “I am not so and so…”

HOW DO YOU FEEL?

The high-achievers I’ve worked with,

They often achieve 5-10x more income without working harder, receive promotions and raises effortlessly, and experience profound transformations in their lives, health, and relationships NOT because they are never stuck or always believe in themselves,

BUT because…

They simply at some point in life decided to choose this innately powerful self and take actions (ha!) to unleash this part of themselves.

Will you?

Be love and be loved,

Shuang-Min
