The lie we tell about Imposter Syndrome

by Shuang-Min | May 2, 2024 | Calm, Success

This will inspire you to re-interpret Imposter Syndrome and Thrive from it!

The first time I coached someone was when I was 20 years old. I didn’t even know what coaching was.

I have a client who has been with me 10+ years. She keeps hiring me whenever she integrated the last work we did and was aiming at a next level success.

I ran a team across 4 functions of high caliber and motivated individuals by incorporate coaching into my management skills.

I’ve been a high-achiever my whole life. When I said I wanted to make something happen, I kept my words.

Yet,

When I quit my corporate job and set up a coaching practice, I was secretly overwhelmed by doubts and fear.

“Who would work with me if I live on my savings?”

“Who would work with me if I can’t even get the lighting in front of the camera right?”

“Who would work with me if I never did this before?” (REALLY?!)

“Who would work with me if I still have so much mess in my own life?”

I had believed that I must get my own sh*t together perfectly so that I could have clients.

I had believed that I must know it all so that I could have clients.

In reality,

I get clients.

I get paid at the rate I charge, which I raised over time.

I am still sorting out various personal mess every day.

I am still going through my own healing every day.

And, there are still SO MUCH I don’t know.

I used to feel like having a heart attack before getting on every call.

The voice “you are such a fake” screamed in my head throughout a whole session.

No amount of client and partner testimonial could remedy this.

➡️ Can we jump off the wagon for good?

We live in the construct that authority and value only come from “know it all” and “be the absolute best”.

While with our own personal experience, we’ve known it was a mission impossible.

(and you know I don’t use “impossible” lightly.)

➡️ What if our value, success, confidence come from a different place?

✨ A place of being a willing, loving way shower.

When managing team, I was showing the way to put every piece of business together instead of telling people what’s the best and right.

When working clients, I was showing the way to finding their own keys to their own doors instead of telling them how to do life best and right.

➡️ When you have your imposter syndrome attack, will you let yourself know it’s ok not to know, not to be the best and not to have everything figured out?

✨ You are simply on a new journey, figuring out your way; at the same time, showing the way you’ve travelled to those who are making their way to where you are.

Be love and be loved.
.
🩷 If you are feeling eaten up by imposter syndrome, make a list

1️⃣ how you are showing ways to others;
2️⃣ how you are learning your next path.
